Forecasts Operational Again

It looks as though yr.no have now sorted their issue and the detailed Fife Forecast is available once again.

Fife Forecast Currently Unavailable

Thanks to David for letting me know, the Fife Forecast sourced from yr.no is currently unavailable. This is due to an issue at the yr.no site, and not a local problem. Unfortunately this means there is little I can do to rectify this issue from this end. The forecast will be available again, once yr.no have corrected the issue at their end.

In the meantime, the MetCheck forecast is still displaying on the forecast page, although admittedly it doesn't provide the same level of detail as the yr.no forecast.

Disk Space Caused Outage

Unfortunately the server that the Fifeweather.co.uk weather website runs on, ran out of disk space in the early hours of this morning.

This prevented the weather station from updating the website from 4am to approximately 11am.

The problem has now been resolved and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Snow Brings Traffic To Site

It has always fascinated me how it's realistically possible to detect the arrival of snow, by the sudden increase of visitor traffic to the site.

Today saw the first flurries of snow for the winter, which deposited a modest amount of snow in the local area.

Here's the traffic analysis graph from the site this week, showing the sudden increase in traffic today, mirroring the arrival of the snow:

and again in higher resolution, showing the last 24 hours of traffic:

One thing is for sure, despite snow being a feature of most winters here, it still holds great interest for most of us.

Wettest Day Record Broken

The daily rainfall record was broken on the first of November, with a rather hefty 46.3mm of rain falling on this date. This broke the previous station record by over 10mm, to become the wettest day since the station started operating in February 2006.

High Wind Gust Record Broken

The severe weather warning for high winds certainly came with vengeance yesterday.

The high winds broke the stations previous all-time recorded high wind gust, with a new record high wind gust of 58.8mph.

This is since station records started in February 2006.

Post-summer Weather Station Maintenance

Today the FifeWeather.co.uk Weather Station underwent post-summer maintenance. This mainly consists of:

- cleaning the rain gauge tipping bucket mechanism and inlet funnel
- cleaning the solar panels for all sensors
- debris removal from temp/humidity sensors
- cleaning WeatherCam lens

The only likely noticeable difference might be some additional clarity and removal of obstructions from the WeatherCam view.
